Smokefree legislation to bring new customers to pubs

17 April 2007

New research by pub company and brewer, Greene King, predicts Britain will see a new demographic visiting their pubs when England goes smokefree.

The study found that over a third (36%) of women between 45 and 54 currently avoid pubs because of the smoky atmosphere. However, more than half (54%) plan to visit after the ban comes into play and 80% felt the move would make pubs a more appealing place to socialise.

A Greene King spokesman said: "The introduction of the smoking ban looks set to entice a new wave of female customers into pubs across the country with professional women and young families, now keen to visit smokefree pubs to socialise, eat and drink.
